New Delhi, Aug 21: Bakra Eid 2018, one of the two major festivals celebrated by Muslims, will be celebrated on August 22 in India. On Bakra Eid, also known as Eid al-Adha or Eid-ul-Adha or Bakrid, financially stable Muslims sacrifice a bovine or cattle in honour of Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command. Here is the meaning of Bakra Eid greeting - Eid Mubarak -, and ways to respond to Eid al-Adha Wishes.

Muslims traditionally use Eid Mubarak as a greeting on Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. The word Eid means celebration whilst Mubarak means blessed or sacred – so together the phrase means blessed celebration. It can be translated as 'have a blessed Eid'. Some Muslims wish by saying 'Bakra Eid Mubarak', which also means the same. There is no particular way of responding to 'Eid Mubarak' wishes. However, one reply in following ways.

One can simply say ‘Jazak Allah Khair’ which means thank you, but literally translates as ‘May Allah reward you with goodness’. You can also say 'Eid Mubarak to you as well' or 'same to you'.
