Significance
It is said that Lord Krishna first explained the importance of fasting on Apara Ekadashi to Yudhishthira, the eldest son of King Pandu, as has been written in the Hindu epic, Mahabharata. Lord Krishna told Yudhishthira that observing a fast on this day would bring him good fortune, wealth, prosperity and popularity. Since then, it is believed that observing a fast on Apara Ekadashi would get devotees good fortune.
Puja Vidhi
To begin your Apara Ekadashi fast, wake up early in the morning before sunrise and take a bath.
After taking a bath, pray to Lord Vishnu by lighting a diya and offer flowers, tulsi leaves and dhoop to the Lord.
You should then spend the rest of the day in prayers and singing bhajans. One must not eat or drink anything offered by anyone on this day to ensure that the sanctity of the fast remains. You can break your fast during the parana timings on the next day.
It is said that if you observe the fast with all the above points on Apara Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu will bless you with good health, wealth and prosperity.
