The festival of Akshaya Tritiya also known as Akha Teej is one of the auspicious festival that is celebrated by the Hindus and Jain community. It falls on the third day of the Hindu month of Vaisakha. This year Akshaya Tritiya will be on April 18, 2018. It is a day to worship Lord Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The day is said to be ruled by God Vishnu. Akshaya Tritiya Puja Vidhi

Whenever there is a religious puja or a ritual, a set of procedure needs to be followed. The puja vidhi for Akshaya Tritiya is as follows:

  • Get up early in the morning.
  • Before performing the puja, make sure the place where you perform is very clean. Wear clean clothes.
  • In the puja, offer sandalwood paste and flowers to Lord Vishnu.
  • In the prasad keep sesame seeds, rice, chana dal and sweets along with tulsi.
  • Recite ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ and mantra.
  • Donate to needy and also the brahmins.
  • Worship Maa Parvati and offer Wheat, Chana daal, Milk, gold, cloth and Kalash (filled with water)
  • One should also then feed the poor and offer grass to cow and calf.

Akshaya Tritiya Mantras

When you are applying chandan to the idol of Lord Krishna, recite the following:

“Yam karothi thruthiyayaam Krishnam chandanam bhushitham

Vaishakhasyasithe pakshe Sayathyachyutha mandiram”

Akshaya Tritiya essentially worships Lord Parasurama. The mantra for Parasurama Jayanti is-

“Jamadagnya mahaveera kshatriyaantha kara prabho

Gruhanarghyam mayadattam krupayaa parameshwaraa”

It is advised to make donations to the needy on the day after performing the puja. While making donations, you should recite-

Sri parameshwara preethyartha muda kumbhadaanoktha phala vaapyartham

brahmana yodakumbha daanam karishye thadanga kalasha pujyadhikam cha karishye

People always pray for good wealth and prosperity on this day. The mantra for this is-

“Kubera Twam Danadeesam Gruha Te Kamala Sithta

Tam Devem Prehayasu Twam Madgruhe te Namo Namah”

Akshaya Tritiya is auspicious for not just buying wealth but it is also a good muhurat for weddings.
