Ahoi Ashtami Significance

Ahoi Ashtami is an auspicious occasion that emphasises the bond between mothers and their children. Ahoi Ashtami holds great importance as on this day, special prayers and offerings are made to Ahoi Mata by mothers, seeking blessings for their children's health and prosperity. The fasting day falls approximately eight days before Diwali Puja and four days after Karwa Chauth. Similar to Karwa Chauth, Ahoi Ashtami is more popular in North India. The day is also known as Ahoi Aathe. On the Ahoi Ashtami day, women take a pledge, called Sankalp, to keep the fast for the well-being of their children. The mothers also recite during Sankalp that the fasting would be without any food or the water and the fast would be broken after sighting the stars or the moon.
