Priya was born in Belmannu, Karnataka, in India. Her childhood was mostly spent in Oman and UAE. She moved to Australia when she was 11-years-old. It took Priya some fair time to understand the accent and get along with the foreign culture.

Soon, she aced it all, and reportedly prior to her beauty pageant win, she worked as a policy adviser for the Government of Victoria and was to be admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as a lawyer, in August this year. The Miss Universe Australia 2019 has a degree in Arts and another one in law.

Priya was never sure to win the prestigious crown. “I thought it’d be sad (that) they’d see me not make it, and they’d miss out,” the 26-year-old told News Corp. But she was selected as one of the national finalists in the competition for Victoria on March 10, 2019.

Crowning Moment!

In the beauty pageant, she competed against 26 other women. And on June 27, 2019, Serrao completed in the final, where she was declared the winner of the competition, Miss Universe Australia 2019. The first runner-up this year was Bella Kasimba, followed by Marijana Radmanović, in the next place.

Absolute Stunner!

For the prestigious win, Priya was quoted in media outlets as saying, “I just want to see more diversity and the fact someone that looks like me and has my background is here is amazing. It was a huge surprise for her, “I have never entered a pageant before and I have never done modelling before… So this was a huge surprise. I wanted to be a part of the experience,” she added.

Priya will next appear in the global platform, the 68th edition of the Miss Universe 2019. Catriona Gray of the Philippines will crown her successor later this year. Before Priya, there have been two Miss Universe title holders from Australia—Kerry Anne Wells (1972) and Jennifer Hawkins (2004); from India—Sushmita Sen (1994) and Lara Dutta (200).
