Here’s a glimpse at 11 strange yet dramatic eyebrow trends on the social media which you may want to recreate for the next party.
1. Christmas Tree Brows
Why bother decorating Christmas trees inside houses when you can adorn it right above your eyes. Do not be alarmed as this is the new beauty trend taking over Instagram. Hong Kong-based beauty and makeup blogger, Taylor R is the creator of Christmas Tree brows. She achieved this look by fanning out her brows in the shape of a fir tree. Taylor then attached colourful rhinestones to complete her Christmas Tree eyebrows. The blogger who goes by the handle taytay_xx shared several pictures and tutorial videos on her feed that quickly gained attention from all over the internet.
2. Feather Brows
Finnish MUA Stella Sironen is the person behind giving us not-so-memorable feather brows. The unkempt brows are given a middle partition, which also includes the usage of glue stick. Yes, to attain these quill-shaped eyebrows, one needs to brush their brows and then give it midway parting. Good luck trying!
3. Braided Brows
Threading, brushing and filling – Is this your standard process to get the sexy brows? For most us, the answer is yes. But for 17-year-old Eros Gomez, a makeup artist from Los Angeles, it was not enough. He wanted to braid his brows. But after failing to achieve the look with the short hair, Gomez did the unthinkable – he photoshopped and thus kick-started a new brow trend.
4. McDonald’s Arch Brows
Probably the wackiest trend off all is McDonald’s Arch brows. Even the creator behind this brow trend initially started it as a total joke. American make-up artist and beauty blogger, Huda Kattan made a tutorial video for people who ‘loves brows (or McDonald's)’. She may not have anticipated the success however it quickly became a viral sensation.
5. Squiggle Brows
Bizarre is the word to describe this eyebrow trend of 2017. There is a serious dearth of words to describe the emotion on seeing the squiggle brows. Like why would one do that to themselves? Why, God, Why?!! Nonetheless, blogger Promise Tamang is most likely to be an inventor of this creepy, crawling brow trend. Just in case, you wanted to know about the person behind this crazy ass design.
6. Nike Eyebrows
Brow game got stronger with Nike eyebrows. Inspired by the apparel giant’s Swoosh logo, several make-up artists created bold tic eyebrows. However, beauty blogger with the handle @SlayageByJess is believed to be the first to start this trend. She used a Maybelline Eye Studio Liner to create this dramatic look. It was quickly followed by others who presented their advanced versions by adding glitter and colour. Just Do It? Or Not?
7. Ponytail Brows
Like the braided brows, Ponytail brows are a crazy work of photoshop. Huh, thank god for that. Just imagine the horror of growing extra eyebrow hair and tying it down in a ponytail? Pretty uncomfortable, right?!
8. Lightning Bolt Brows
After the swoosh, squiggle and feather, the 2017 eyebrow trend saw another crazy shape – that of a lightning bolt. One fine day, makeup artist Zakia Wahbi decided to be a weirdo (her words, not mine) and created the eyebrows with a dramatic stormy night feel. She used Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade and Fenty Beauty Trophy Wife highlighter to create razor-shaped brows and eyelids. Her followers cannot stop loving and appreciating her bold look.
9. Negative Space Brows
Social media is the perfect breeding ground for anyone and everyone who wants to make a new trend. Do not worry about the absurdities as there have to be some potential takers. Take, for instance, the Negative Space Brows. The beauty trend is scary and nonsensical as hell and it still is one of the 2017 brow trends.
10. Rainbow Brows
Which party do you go with rainbow brows? A Unicorn Party on Unicorn Land. Okay, it does not make any sense, neither does the rainbow eyebrow trend. The arched brows pained in a mix of red, turquoise, yellow, and purple is one dash of colours on your face. Nevertheless, they are loyalists of these ‘Rainbrows’ on the social media.
11. Crown Eyebrows
Glue stick, rhinestones, spoolie, Vaseline – the products you need to get your very own brow crowns. 18-year-old beauty lover, Sofie Petersen from Denmark created one of the most enthralling trends of the year with her Crown Eyebrows. Just like Christmas Tree brows and feather brows, the make-up artist used spoolie and glue to fan out the brows in classic crown shape. She then added rhinestones to complete the regal look.
Love them or hate them, these eyebrows trends in 2017 is most likely to go down as memorable moments in the brow history. The year proved that individuals are moving away from ideal beauty standards and do not shy away from trying something new. The aforementioned eyebrow trends may not be the style we needed but it has opened the gateways for others to create, dramatize and have fun with fashion.
