Mumbai, July 15: The official Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for 'All Commodities' in June has been announced and it has eased to 2.02 per cent from 2.45 per cent in May 2019 and 5.68 percent during the corresponding month of the previous year. The fall in the inflation rate has been helped by a decline in prices of vegetables as well as fuel and power items, according to official data released Monday. For the second consecutive month, the WPI inflation rate has slipped and it has neared its 2-year-low mark.
When the inflation numbers were out, Sensex was marginally in the green and was trading at 38,803.31 +67.08 (0.17 per cent). Nifty was at 11,560.05 +7.55 (0.065 percent).WPI Inflation Declines To 2.45% in May 2019, Touches 2-Year Low.
Vegetable inflation reduced to 24.76 per cent in June, down from 33.15 per cent in the previous month. Inflation in potato was (-) 24.27 per cent, against (-) 23.36 per cent in May. However, onion prices continued the rising trend with inflation at 16.63 per cent during the month, as against 15.89 per cent in May.
The index for Fuel & Power major group declined by 1.3% to 102.1 (provisional) from 103.4 (provisional) for the previous month. Ahead of the WPI inflation number, the rupee opened 14 paise higher at 68.59/$ today.
