Hyderabad, June 6: A Telangana man has protested against the Centre's 'meagre petrol price' reduction with a tit-for-tat move. In response to the 9 paise cut in petrol price last week after 16 straight days of hike, he decided to donate a cheque of the same amount towards the Prime Minister Relief Fund (PMRF).

The cheque was submitted at Sircilla Collector's officer by Chandu Goud, identified as a real estate dealer residing in Chandampet Mandal. While speaking to reporters, he said he wanted to send a message to the central government.

Goud said he had to pay as high as Rs 83 per litre of fuel in the past week. After the price was slashed by 9 paise, he was charged Rs 82.91. "But how can I even ask the petrol pump authorities to return me 9 paise as there is no currency denomination as such," he added.

Goud said he decided to donate the cheque to the government to make them realise about the plight of farmers, who were hit by the soaring petrol and diesel prices. Since agrarian practices involve the use of tractors, fuel forms an important aspect of the input cost.

Petrol prices touched a peak of Rs 83 in Hyderabad last week, whereas, it soared to as high as Rs 86.29 in Mumbai. The hike, Petroleum Ministry claims, was caused by the spiralling crude oil rates, which touched a peak of $84.47 on May 14.
