As per the earlier report, Ashwani Khad is one of the major water source for Shimla city and to the Solan district. After reports of the river water getting polluted started doing rounds, Shimla stopped taking water from the river; however, after the city started facing water crises, it again decided to use the river, by treating the polluted water.
As per reports, the Solagrah solid waste dumping ground which is located on the river bank is the reason behind the menace. The northern part of India has been receiving incessant rainfalls from the past few days, and due to which several rivers of the region are seen overflowing. The Ashwani Khad river was also flooded amid the heavy rainfall. But the sight of river carrying garbage disheartened everyone.
