Uttarakhand, July 19: In an unfortunate road mishap that took place in Uttarakhand, 14 people have died, and 18 are reported to be injured, according to the latest update.  Out of which, six people are in critical condition and are admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh. The incident happened when the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation bus they were in, skidded off Rishikesh Gangotri Highway into a 250 metre deep gorge near Suryadhar. According to an ANI report, local administration, and police have reached the spot. There were 25 people travelling in the bus.

The state government has directed helicopters to be made available to bring the injured to AIIMS. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter. A compensation of Rs 2 lakh has been announced to the next kin of the deceased, and Rs 50,000 each will be provided to those injured.

District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate are also present at the spot to take stock of the situation.Search and rescue operations are underway.

A similar incident took place earlier this month, when 47 passengers were killed after a bus fell into a gorge in Nainidanda area of Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district. The incident occurred near the Guen Bridge on Pipli-Bhaun motorway in NainiDanda block when the driver of the bus lost control, and it fell into a gorge. PM Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the bereaved families after the incident.
