Lucknow, Mar 11: The mega bypolls in the Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh are currently underway. Voting in the two constituencies was scheduled to be conducted between 8 am to 5 pm, the Election Commission had said.
In Gorakhpur parliamentary seat, a total of 970 polling centres and 2,141 polling booths have been earmarked. Whereas, in Phulpur, the EC had assigned 793 polling centres and 2,059 polling booths.
The electoral size in larger in Phulpur, where the Commission has registered 19.61 lakh eligible voters, whereas, in Gorakhpur, a total of 19.49 lakh voters are registered.

On the official website of the Election Commission - ww.eci.nic.in - click ‘Name Search in Voters List’, located at the bottom of the landing page. On the page that appears, click on the name of your state i.e. Uttar Pradesh.
On the following page, add your name, surname, district and constituency. The option of entering the voter ID is optional, as many voters have yet not obtained their voter ID cards. However, their name continues to appear on the electoral list.
After filling all the details in the mandatory fields, click on search.
Candidates in fray
The BJP has fielded Kaushalendra Singh Patel from Phulpur and Upendra Dutt Shukla from Gorakhpur against SP’s Pravin Nishad and Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel respectively. Sureetha Kareem is the Congress candidate from Gorakhpur. The party, which had joined hands with SP in the assembly polls held last year, has fielded Manish Mishra from Phulpur.
