Lucknow, Aug 13: Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has issued an order asking madrasas in the state to hoist national flag and chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai on the Independence Day, August 15. The state government reportedly said the order was issued to inculcate patriotism among students.

Speaking on the issue, a Uttar Pradesh minister said every Indian must chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai. “They will have to say Bharat Mata ki Jai. Every Indian should be chanting it. Such orders have been issued in past too,” the minister told a news channel, adding that the government wasn't testing their patriotism.

Last year, a similar order was issued ahead of the Independence Day wherein the state government asked all madrassas to hoist the national flag at 8:00 am, followed by National Anthem. It also asked them to record videos to prove that the Independence Day was celebrated.

The order had come under criticism as many see it as an attempt to not only test patriotism of minorities but also to force them to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
