Hyderabad, June 9: The Kacheguda police in Telangana arrested Upendra Verma, owner of renowned Mayur Pan House on charges of raping a software professional in the city. The pan baron has been charged under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 417 (cheating). The arrest was made after nearly a month of preliminary investigation by the police, preceded by the filing of FIR by the victim's parents.

Upendra, 33, is accused of befriending the victim on social media four-and-a-half years ago and entering into a sexual relationship with her on the pretext of getting married.

The victim claims she was taken to plush resorts by Upendra and offered pan laced with sedatives. When she went unconscious, he used to allegedly film her in compromising positions. The images and videos were later used by him in a bid to silence her when she insisted on marriage.

When she insisted upon marriage, Upendra used to threaten her with leaking the intimate images on social media, the victim alleged.

Along with Upendra, three of his aides - Ajit Kumar, Manish and Mohammed Shazab - were also arrested. While the trio have been released on bail, Upendra has been sent to 14-day judicial remand. The police are also on the lookout of one Rajesh, a furniture shop owner, who allegedly threatened the victim's family against approaching the police.
