Lucknow, Aug 16: A clash erupted between a group of Kanwariyas and local residents in Tanda town of Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district on Monday night after an ailing girl fainted due to loud music played by Kanwariyas. Enraged at the incident, locals clashed with Kanwariyas and stone-pelting continued from both the sides for nearly half-an-hour.

The clash took place when a group of Kanwariyas was passing through the Tanda town. They were reportedly playing loud music. A girl, who was ill, is said to have fainted due to the loud music being played by the Kanwariyas, after which locals demanded that the volume be lowered, said Onkar Singh, deputy inspector general, Faizabad range, told PTI on Wednesday.

The group of Kanwariyas, however, didn't pay heed and allegedly started playing objectionable songs and raising objectionable slogans that resulted in a clash. After receiving information of violence, the police arrived at the spot and separated the two groups. A case has been registered against 50-60 unidentified people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the DIG said.

Following the incident, heavy security personnel have been deployed in the area.
