Unnao Rape Case: No Poison Found In Key Witness's Body, Says Uttar Pradesh Police
The forensic science laboratory (FSL) report of Yunus ruled out poisoning as the cause of his death.
Lucknow, Sep 2: No poisonous substance was found in the body of a key witness, Yunus, in the Unnao rape case who died recently, said the Uttar Pradesh police. The forensic science laboratory (FSL) report of Yunus ruled out poisoning as the cause of his death. His body was exhumed for a post-mortem examination on August 25.
"The FSL report of Yunus has been received by SP Unnao. No poison has been detected in the viscera which was sent for chemical analysis," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said, as reported by news agency PTI. The rape victim’s uncle had alleged foul play after the death of Yunus on August 18.
On Twitter, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had also termed the death “mysterious” and his burial “hurried”. The man’s family, however, had said he died due to a liver ailment for which he was being treated since 2013. District authorities met relatives of Yunus seeking consent to exhume his body. The body was exhumed in presence of Qazi sahab (religious leader).
Yunus was a witness in the CBI case registered after the death of the father of a minor who was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The rape victim’s father died in April after being beaten up, allegedly by Sengar’s brother and others. Yunus had claimed to have seen the rape victim’s father being beaten up by the brother of the BJP MLA.
Earlier, the police had said the family members had submitted medical prescriptions, indicating the man was undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis. His brothers had claimed the victim’s uncle said they would get Rs 10-12 lakh if they agree to the post- mortem examination.
