Lucknow, April 11: Rape accused lawmaker of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, reached the Lucknow SSP office late on Wednesday night, in a likely bid to surrender himself. The 50-year-old MLA is charged of raping an 18-year-old girl in his home-district of Unnao.

Sengar, who has so far refuted the charges of rape levelled against him by the victim, reiterated the same while addressing the reporters outside the SSP's office. "I am not involved in the case. This is a conspiracy. But I am completely cooperating with the police," he said.

A day earlier, the Unnao police, under the directions of UP Director General of Police O P Singh, arrested Kuldeep's brother Atul Singh on charges of assaulting the victim's father, who died due to the fatal injuries on Monday.

The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Pappu Yadav, was allegedly assaulted by the MLA's brother and his accomplices, before handing him over to the Unnao police on fraudulent charges. Yadav was rushed to the Unnao district hospital on Sunday after his condition deteriorated.

Facing massive flak on charges of police inaction and political interference, the UP government on Monday constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the case.

"No guilty shall be spared. We will take strict action against all those involved," said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The incident came under media's radar on Saturday, when the victim along with her family members attempted suicide outside the CM's residence.

After her failed bid to immolate herself, the victim addressed the media to mark her angst against the state government, claiming that her plight remained unheard despite reaching the Chief Minister's Office.

The victim claimed she was raped on multiple occasions by the MLA and his aides between June 9-12 last year. "Despite running from pillar to post, I was denied justice. I also approached CM Yogi ji in August. But despite his orders, the police failed to act. Instead, they booked my family members on fake charges," she said.
