New Delhi, Aug 14: The Delhi Police have recovered a CCTV video of the man accused of firing at JNU scholar Umar Khalid on Monday. In the video, the suspected attacker is seen running towards Patel Marg at around 2:30 pm. The police is checking several videos recorded in CCTVs installed near the Constitution Club of India where Umar Khalid was shot at.

The accused who fired at Umar Khalid was caught in a CCTV camera installed at the RBI building across the road. Khalid, accused of raising anti-national slogans in 2016, on Monday survived an attempt to kill him. The police, however, said it was not clear whether the gunshot fired by the attacker was aimed at him or not.

A shaken Khalid told the media that a man approached him with a gun when he was outside the Constitution Hall, tried to overpower him and shoot him down. "Khalid lost his balance, fell down and bullet missed him. We tried to catch the man. He fired aerial shots and fled after pistol slipped off his hand," an eyewitness told ANI.

Khalid arrived at the venue to attend an event titled 'Khauff Se Azaadi', organised by an organisation named 'United Against Hate'. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, Fatima Nafees, mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmad, Maryam, the wife of Jharkhand lynching victim Alimuddin and Dr Kafeel Khan from Gorakhpur were among those were present at the seminar.

After the attack, Khalid said that in the last two years, since the JNU episode which led to his jailing, "there has been misinformation everywhere" about him and his politics. He accused a section of the media of spreading propaganda against him.
