Tripura CM Biplab Deb is in News Again, Says 'Rabindranath Tagore Gave Away Nobel Prize to Protest British Atrocities'
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb is in the habit of making bizarre and meaningless comments
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb is in the habit of making bizarre and meaningless comments. The recent one being, he made an embarrassing gaffe, while speaking at a function in Udaipur to mark the birth anniversary of Tagore. Deb said, "Tagore gave away Nobel prize award to protest against the British atrocities. Gitanjali had conferred the world's best award to Tagore." In reality, Tagore received his Nobel Prize for his collection of poems in 'Gitanjali' and had given away his Knighthood in 1919 to protest against the Jalianwala Bagh killings.
This is not the first time that Biplab has made a controversial statement, his last one being where he said, anyone who issued a threat against his or interferes, their nails should be chopped off.
Reportedly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah had summoned Deb on May 2 in the national capital. PM Modi has asked party leaders to refrain from making "irresponsible" statements, saying such comments hurt the party's image. Deb last Thursday, faced immense flak when he questioned the 'beauty' of Diana Hayden, the former Miss World. From giving his views on government jobs, milking cows, internet in Mahabharata era, Deb is considered as internet's favourite controversy child.
