Agartala, Mar 3: The election results of Tripura, the last remaining communist bastion of India, will be declared today. The assembly elections in the state were held on February 18, 2018. The counting of votes were scheduled to begin at 8 am. Tripura witnessed a high-voltage electoral battle in the run-up to the polls, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joining hands with the anti-Left tribal outfit - the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura in a bid to end the 25-year-old rule of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]. The party-wise trends are expected to emerge within couple of hours of the vote-count. However, the winners will be declared later. In the 2013 assembly elections, the Left Front won with a brute mandate, with the CPI(M) winning 49 seats and the CPI wresting 1. The Congress had then emerged as the prime opposition winning 10 seats in the assembly.
