Mumbai, July 20: People across the state are facing inconvenience as All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has started its protest against the constant increase in diesel prices, uncontrollable toll expenses, GST compliance issues, practical problems with e-way bills and some other issues, according to an ANI report. The transport operators began their indefinite strike from Thursday midnight, as a result of which, school, contract carriage buses for companies and private inter-state buses will remain off the roads today.
Most transporters from Maharashtra have supported the strike. The School & Company Bus Owners' Association - the union of school bus operators in city - has also joined the strike causing inconvenience to several students across Maharashtra. The bus owners' body chief Anil Garg said they do not intend to cause inconvenience to the students and their parents. However, he added, their demands will benefit all commuters in the long-run. However, with the strike, students who take bus as their mode of commute to schools will get affected.
It is believed that some 93 lakh trucks and several thousands of transport buses will participate in the indefinite strike. The transporters bodies will keep essential commodities such as vegetables, fruits, milk out of the strike. However, Raman Khosla, president in charge of the Vahatuk Mahasangh as quoted in a Hindustan Times report said, “But we can’t stop operators of essential commodities if they decide to participate in the strike."
