Hyderabad, Mar 15: The K Chandrasekhar Rao government in Telangana rolled-out its fourth Budget, being dubbed by the ruling TRS as a 'welfare-centric' fiscal document.

Presented by State Finance Minister Etela Rajender, the Budget made major allocations towards the numerous social welfare schemes, agrarian subsidies and sops to small-scale industries and trade corporations.

Highlights of Telangana Budget 2018-19:

The total budget size is Rs 1,74,453 crore. The expenditure incurred in the current financial year is Rs 1,25,464 crore, while the revenue is estimated to reach up to Rs 73,751 crore by March 31.

For farmers, FM Rajender rolled-out Rs 12,000 crore for input subsidy, Rs 500 crore for crop insurance, along with Rs 167 crore being earmarked for micro-irrigation.

For overall irrigation projects across the state, a whopping Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated.

The FM also announced Rs 1,450 crore towards Shadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes -- its flagship programme to financially aid newly-wed couple of economically weak strata, including a one-time aide of Rs 51,000 to the bride's family to meet the wedding expenses.

For '2 BHK Housing Project' - another flagship scheme of the government to provide people with pakka residences, Rs 2,600 crore have been allocated.

The TRS government has also allotted Rs 1,800 crore to meet the further expenses under Mission Bhagiratha, a landmark programme under the KCR tenure, which aims to provide piped water to all households in the state.

An fiscal share amounting to Rs 1790 crore has been extended to the Women and Child Development department to fund the various welfare schemes of the government.

For the backward classes, Rs 1000 crore has been allocated towards MBC Corporation. Similarly, the Brahmin Corporation has been extended with financial aid amounting to Rs 100  crore.

Rs 1,470 crore has been set aside to meet the cost to be incurred for allotting upto three acre land to landless Dalits. The Finance Minister said those beneficiaries who could not be covered last year, will be transferred the land ownership rights in this fiscal.

Analysts attribute the pro-people tilt in the Budget to the elections slated to be held next year. Apart from the 17 Lok Sabha seats, the state will also witness an electoral fight for the 119-member legislative assembly late next year.
