Tariq Premji (40) the younger son of billionaire Azim Premji, has been appointed to the board of Wipro Enterprises as a non-executive director, according to a company statement. Senior Premji and his elder son Rishad are already on the board. According to a report on Economic Times, after Tariq's entry, the Premji family holds half the number of seats on the board.

According to the company statement, “Wipro Enterprises (P) Limited has appointed Mr Tariq Premji as a non-executive Director on the board of the company. Wipro Enterprises is a private limited company, and Mr Tariq Premji’s appointment is in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013. His independent, objective view will add value to the board’s deliberations."

Tariq is however on the board of two other arms of the Wipro empire- the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives and Azim Premji Foundation since 2016. According to a report on Mint, Tariq has studied at Mumbai's St. Mary’s School and graduated in commerce from St. Joseph’s College, Bengaluru. He then worked at a BPO for almost a year, before joining PremjiInvest. According to the report, before shifting to Bengaluru, he was a high-flying socialite, often spotted in the midst of movie stars.

While, the expectation was that his brother Rishad would become an heir to his father's business, but now with the rise of Tariq, it will be interesting to see if both the brothers come together to take the Premji empire forward.
