Karur, May 3:  After driving cars of Sarkari babus (government officers) for the last 33 years, 58-year old Paramasivam bids adieu as he serves his last day on April 30, 2018. On his last official day, the Karur district Collector of Tamil Nadu named Anbazhagan to whom he gave his final service, turns up a secret Santa. The sweet gesture of the district collector is grabbing much attention on social media. Netizens have applauded and appreciated the IAS officer, for his service and for showering love on his subordinates.

Paramasivam, who got emotional for all the affection showered upon him was quoted in reports saying, "I worked for 34 years, but I will never forget this day in my lifetime.” Paramasivam was stunned and speechless as collector Anbazhagan volunteered to act as his driver and drop him and his wife at their house situated in North Gandhi Gramam, 6 kilometres from the collectorate. Also, the collector had tea at Paramasivam’s home.

The reports also quoted Collector Anbazhagan who stated, “Paramasivam was working with district administration as a driver for the past three decades, and his service is excellent. He drove the car for many collectors here and was very sincere while on duty. Drivers contribute a lot to our work without bothering about what time they called on duty. Therefore, to honour his service, now I am driving the car for him.”

Earlier, Kurar Collector Anbazhagan was in the news for similar kind of gesture. In his surprising move, he came calling for an aged woman with his home-cooked food to help her with the pension. He had been in the village to join in the mass contact program near Mookankurichi, following which he turned up unexpectedly at Rengammal’s tiny hut.

Interacting with the old couple, Anbalagan learnt that they had no other means of survival other than depending on the free rice scheme of the state government and that their two daughters had left the village after getting married. He also learnt that they had not been receiving Old Age Pension (OAP) as they are entitled to and hence, he immediately set the revenue officials on the task.
