Talking on Phone While Driving Will Cost You Either Your Life or Your Licence! Pune Traffic Police Have Been Catching Offenders
The Pune traffic police are taking strict action, following which for the first time they are confiscating the driving licence of any driver who is found talking on the mobile phones while driving.
Pune, July 4: Pune traffic police has taken a significant action against traffic violators for the first time. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the Pune police in its recent action against traffic offenders suspended about a whopping 300 driving licences for using a mobile phone while driving. Furthermore, the traffic department collected Rs. 57.67 lakh as fine money in last four months from the offenders. Besides this, they have also registered around 28,837 cases between January 1 to June 30, 2018, against people talking on mobile phone while driving.
The report further mentions that the traffic police have also collected fine from the first-time offenders, apart from cancelling their licences. According to the data released by the city traffic police department, a fine of Rs. 16.13 lakh has been recovered out of the 8,066 cases registered between January 1 and June 30, 2017. A total of 29,035 cases have been registered in the whole year and Rs. 58.06 has been collected from the offenders.
To educate and initiate awareness among drivers, the Pune police also held a week-long awareness drive to spread literacy about traffic rules, specifically about talking on mobile phones while driving, which could prove fatal.
Ashok Morale, DCP (traffic) was quoted as saying,“We will seize the licence and send it to RTO office, which is the licensing authority. After that, the RTO office will issue a notice, and the licence will be suspended for three months."
