Mumbai-based Swiggy food delivery boy, Siddrameshwar Siddharam Humanabade who saved people from ESIC hospital fire was honoured on Tuesday. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State for Labour and Employment rewarded Humanabade for his timely and responsible action with a reward of Rs one lakh. His step saved the lives of ten people trapped in the fire that occurred at ESIC Hospital in Andheri on December 17, 2018.
Praising Humanabade, who went way ahead of his duty to save people, the minister said, "It is also praiseworthy to mention that Mr Siddrameshwar continued his selfless service for rescuing the victims until he started feeling uncomfortable due to inhaling of toxic gases due to the fire. In recognition of his courage, selfless nature and missionary zeal, I am also pleased to reward Mr Siddrameshwar a sum of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only)." Siddhu talks about his experience:
The fire at ESIC Kamgar hospital killed 10 people and injured 150. The MIDC police had arrested two persons for causing death by negligence. Most of the death occurred due to suffocation when people tried to leave the building. Siddrameshwar said that even though Humanabade is not an employee of ESIC, he has set an example to everyone by his efforts.
The 20-year-old said that he was out for delivering food when he saw smoke coming out of the hospital. He said he could hear people screaming for people when he reached the area in Marol. He immediately joined the rescue forces in saving people. Firemen worked for three hours to save the trapped people.
