Srinagar, Feb 20: In yet another militant activity being reported from the Valley, suspected terrorists on Tuesday launched fire at the Air Force Station guards in South Kashmir's Malangpora.

The attack was first reported by news agency ANI at 5:58 pm. No casualties or injuries were recorded by the time this report was first published. Reports claimed the militants involved in the gunfire escaped from the site of attack after firing shots at the guards. A search operation has been launched to nab them.

The Malangpora Air Force Station is located in Pulwama district, which is considered to be the hotbed of militancy. The region, post the death of former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, witnessed numerous attacks on police patrolling parties by cadres of Hizbul and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The gunfire at Malangpora today comes days after the Army's Sunjwan camp in Jammu was attacked by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists. The fidayeen assault resulted into the death of seven soldiers and one civilian.

On Monday, J&K government's minister and official spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said the situation in Kashmir is turning "increasingly dangerous", adding that hostile Indo-Pak relations is abetting the activities of cross-border terrorists.
