Sunanda Pushkar Death Case: Shashi Tharoor Charged With 'Abetment to Suicide'
The case of Sunanda Pushkar's death dates back to January 17, 2014, when the business magnate was found dead in the Leela Palace hotel of Delhi's Chanakyapuri.
New Delhi, May 14: The Delhi Police on Monday filed its chargesheet in the Sunanda Pushkar death case, booking Congress veteran and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor under IPC sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 498A (cruelty in marriage).
With Tharoor being booked under the strenuous charges, he is required to appear before the Patiala House Court during the course of trial. However, the Delhi Police would not seek his arrest till Tharoor or his counsel appears before the bench in each of the hearings, reports said.
The case of Sunanda Pushkar's death dates back to January 17, 2014, when the business magnate was found dead in the Leela Palace hotel of Delhi's Chanakyapuri.
Pushkar's death was caused due to a radioactive poison. Although the prima facie case appeared to be of suicide, the police had been probing the abetment to suicide angle, as reports had surfaced of turbulent relationship between Pushkar and her husband, Tharoor.
A Pakistan-based journalist, Mehr Tarar, who was a friend of Pushkar, told the media that the deceased had informed her that she was going to "expose" her husband.
The matter was also spearheaded by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy, who petitioned the Delhi High Court seeking a court-monitored probe into the case, apart from demanding Tharoor to be booked in the FIR against unidentified persons under Sections 302 (murder) registered by the Delhi Police in April, 2014.
