New Delhi, May 28: The Delhi Police on Monday told the Patiala House Court that Shashi Tharoor, parliamentarian and husband of late Sunanda Pushkar, paid no heed to her wife's plight despite being let known that she was contemplating suicide.

The police, citing the investigation records, claimed Tharoor was conveyed by Pushkar via the social media and mobile SMS that she had "lost her will to live". Tharoor, instead of reaching out to his wife, "ignored" her messages and rejected her calls, the public prosecutor said.

The 3,000-chargesheet filed by the police claims over 27 tablets of Alprax were found in the room where Pushkar was found dead. The investigators, however, are yet to ascertain the number of tablets she had consumed in a bid to kill herself.

Tharoor "as a husband ignored Sunanda when she was sliding or slipping into depression and she had Alprax", said the charge sheet submitted by the Delhi Police.

The police further told the court that it would consider Pushkar's emails and messages to Tharoor on social media as "dying declarations".

The case involving Pushkar's death dates back to 2014. The influential businesswoman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her luxury hotel room in Delhi's Leela Palace on January 18, 2014.

The investigation so far has revealed that she was reeling under depression, allegedly due to the "affair between Tharoor and a Pakistan-based journalist".

Tharoor, however, has dismissed the charges levelled against him by the Delhi Police, calling them false and "motivated by vested interests".
