Mumbai, June 30: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Subodh K Jaiswal, has taken charge  as Commissioner of Police of Mumbai.  Jaiswal has been called back to Maharashtra after Datta Padsalgikar gets promoted as the Director General of Police (DGP).

The 1985 batch IPS officer was on central deputation duty serving as senior official in Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). He was also a part of the team that investigated the Telgi stamp paper scam in 2002-2003. In the past Jaiswal served as Additional Police Commissioner of Mumbai. He was also part of the team investigating 2006 Mumbai blasts.

According to media reports,  the Maharashtra government had written to Jaiswal asking him if he would be ready to take over the responsibility of the Mumbai CP. Datta Padsalgikar, who was the commissioner of Mumbai police is promoted as DGP. Padgalsikar had taken charge as the chief of Mumbai Police in 2016 from Javed Ahmed.
