Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to revolutionary hero Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on their birth anniversaries.
New Delhi, January 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to revolutionary hero Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on their birth anniversaries. Bal Thackeray was born on January 23, 1926. He shared his birthday with Subhash Chandra Bose who was born in 1897. PM Modi said that India is indebted to Netaji, as Bose is commonly referred to, whose relentless fight against the British rule. PM Modi tweeted: "India will always remain grateful to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for his bravery and indelible contribution to resisting colonialism. He stood up for the progress and well-being of his fellow Indians." He also shared a picture of a page from Netaji's personal diary in which he had stated, "A son was born at midday". "This son became a valorous freedom fighter and thinker who devoted his life towards one great cause- India’s freedom," the Prime Minister said.

Last year, on January 23, PM Modi had inaugurated a museum dedicated exclusively to Netaji and his Indian National Army which showcased various artefacts related to Bose. In 2018, he had also hoisted the national flag at Red Fort and had unveiled the plaque commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the formation of Azad Hind Government, formed by the legendary freedom fighter.
Describing Bal Thackeray as "courageous" and "indomitable", PM Modi said that the Shiv Sena founder has been an inspiration for millions. "Tributes to the great Balasaheb Thackeray on his Jayanti. Courageous and indomitable, he never hesitated from raising issues of public welfare. He always remained proud of Indian ethos and values. He continues to inspire millions," he tweeted. Bal Keshav Thackeray, popularly known as Balasaheb Thackeray, was the founder of Shiv Sena which became a powerful political outfit in Maharashtra. Thackeray, who was also called the Hindu Hriday Samrat by his followers, advocate for the interests of Maharashtrians or Marathi-speaking people in Maharashtra's political and social landscape.
