Mumbai, July 5: It comes as a huge sigh of relief for passengers as well as airlines that SpiceJet aircraft, which has been stuck on the main runway at Mumbai International Airport since Tuesday, was finally pulled out on Thursday at 11.10pm. Mumbai Airport's Main Runway May Remain Shut Till July 4 as SpiceJet Plane Still Stuck, Flight Operations to be Affected.

Mumbai was recently battered with very heavy rainfall, as a result of which, the  SpiceJet flight from Jaipur carrying 167 passengers and crew overshot the runway after landing.

The aircraft remained stuck partially on the runway and the nearby grass area. The main runway had to be closed, and many flights were either cancelled or got diverted to the nearby Airport.

It is to be highlighted that Mumbai's airport is the second busiest in the country, handling around 1,000 arrivals and departures per day. On Tuesday, as many as 52 flights were cancelled and another 55 diverted, including 29 domestic and 26 international ones.
