Special POCSO Act Court in Mumbai Seeks Death Penalty for Serial Child Rapist

The Court convicted the accused Ayaz Ansari for raping and having unnatural sex with a school girl in 2014.

Mumbai, July 25: A special POCSO Act court on Tuesday allowed the prosecution plea to frame charges against a 36-year-old serial child rapist under IPC Section 376, under which the maximum sentence is the death penalty, according to a report on Times of India. The Court convicted the accused Ayaz Ansari for raping and having unnatural sex with a schoolgirl in 2014. The prosecution sought a death sentence for the accused, since he was previously convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Special public prosecutor Geeta Sharma said the application was moved citing provisions under section 376 (E) of IPC. Reportedly, if it is accepted, then charges will be framed under the section, and the prosecution will seek death. On that fateful day, the child was taken to a water tank close the building and was then raped. When the minor tried to resist, the accused hit her, and then verbally abused her. She was left in that state there Later she confided in the watchman, who informed her father.

Ansari has allegedly molested several children. Other than the case mentioned above, Ansari has 11 more conviction cases against him. After the horrible rape and murder of the Kathua child, the Union Cabinet modified their POCSO ACT, which now awards death sentence to the rapists of children below the age of 12, if the person is found guilty of the crime.
