Agartala, Mar 3: South Tripura, a tribal dominated district - with four of the seven assembly seats being reserved - is considered to be one of the strongest hold of the CPI(M) in the state. The district went into polls on February 18, along with other regions of Tripura. The results are scheduled to be declared today by the Election Commission. The counting of votes were scheduled to begin at 8 am. Stay tuned on this page for the latest updates and results from all seven constituencies of South Tripura: Belonia, Hrishyamukh, Rajnagar, Santirbazar, Sabroom, Jolaibari and Manu.
In the previous assembly elections, the district was swept by Tripura, winning all seven constituencies. This time, however, the party is facing a more dynamic battle due to the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), an anti-Left tribal-based party.
