Shankar Uthale Becomes First Indian Police Constable to Win The Ironman Title! Head Constable Loses 30kg in Six Months to Become Fit

Maharashtra policeman has scripted history by becoming the first constable in the country to complete Ironman race. The 39-year-old Shankar Uthale who was 92 Kgs around six months ago, has now reduced the weight to 60 kgs.

Mumbai, November 25: Maharashtra policeman has scripted history by becoming the first constable in the country to complete Ironman race. The 39-year-old Shankar Uthale who was 92 Kgs around six months ago, has now reduced the weight to 60 kgs. The head constable, a resident of Vasai who has served in the police for 14 years, is currently posted at Virar police station. The head constable completed the race- a 3.8km swim, a 180.2km cycling and a 42.2 km run-in 16 hours and 15 minutes. It is regarded as the toughest one-day sporting event in the world. The participants need to complete its all three events within 17 hours. Only after completing the events within the required timeframe, participants can earn the title of ‘Ironman’. While preparing for the race, Uthale used to do cycling for five hours in the morning. He also learnt swimming.

Apart from Uthale, two police officers have also completed the Ironman-race. Krishna Prakash, currently IG, VIP securities, in Mumbai, was the first IPS officer to win the title in August last year. While, Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Nashik city commissioner, became the second IPS officers to win the title this year in August. Actor-Model Milind Soman had completed the race held at Zurich, Switzerland in 15 hours, 19 minutes. That time he was 50 years old.

Meanwhile, in July this year, Major General VD Dogra completed an exhausting ‘Ironman’ competition held in Austria. After achieving this feat, he became the first serving Indian Army officer and the only General across the world to have completed this competition. The general-rank army officer completed the event in 14 hours and 21 minutes.
