Shah Rukh Khan's Farmhouse in Alibaug Provisionally Attached by I-T Department
The attachment could last for a maximum period of 90 days, till the matter is under probe.
Mumbai, Jan 30: Film actor Shah Rukh Khan's farmhouse in Alibaug was provisionally attached by the Income Tax department on Tuesday. The action was taken as per the provisions of Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions (PBPT) Act.
The Déjà Vu Farms, spread over a total area of 19,960 square metres, is one of the most frequented holiday homes of Khan. The property came under scanner in December, after the I-T sleuths alleged that Khan had bought the land citing agricultural purpose, but instead used it as a leisure home.
"The said transaction falls under the definition of benami transaction as per the Section 2 (9) of the PBPT Act, where Déjà Vu Farms has acted as benamidar for the ultimate benefits of Khan. Thus, the actor is a beneficiary for the said under the prescribed law,” the I-T investigation report said.
As per the provisions of the PBPT Act, the property could be attached for a maximum of 90 days till the probe is underway.
According to reports, the plot was purchased in 2004. The filings before the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, cited by the I-T department, says it was registered in the name o two shareholders -- Srinivas Parthasarathy and Somasekhar Sundaresan. In December 2014, however, the shares were transferred in the name of Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan.
