Sant Rampal Gets Life Imprisonment in Murder Cases

Hisar, October 16: Self-styled godman Sant Rampal has been sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with two murder cases. The self-styled godman Sant Rampal and his followers were held guilty last Thursday for six murders and the wrongful confinement of the followers. Rampal and his followers are facing two murder cases. The first case was reported in, 2014, when a female follower was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Rampal's Satlok Ashram. On the following day, four women and a child were found dead after Rampal's followers clashed with police.
Rampal has been kept in jail since November 2014 and will continue to remain in prison now that he has been convicted in both cases. Hisar Superintendent of Police Shiv Charan had said that the administration had made elaborate arrangements in view of any possible outcome.
On August 29 last year, Rampal was acquitted in two major cases by the Hisar court. The godman, who was accused of illegally confining devotees in his ashram in November 2014, along with rioting with the police in the same period, was relieved of the twin charge. Rampal's lawyers said they will challenge the conviction in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
