Soldiers posted at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) which is 18,000 feet above sea level jawan hoisted the national flag in minus 30-degree temperature on January 26th. The video which is a stunning display of grit and determination shows the jawans making way for themselves among heaps of snow while raising 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' slogans in Ladakh. The clip shows 13 armed men standing in a line in freezing temperatures saluting the tricolour on Republic Day.
On the eve of Republic Day, an ITBP officer, part of a security forces' team who killed Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Dujana in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017, was awarded the police medal for gallantry. For exemplary services, fifteen other officials of the border guarding force were also awarded. Marking 70th Republic Day, various events were held across the country. Different contingencies showcasing the country's cultural, tradition, its armed forces and talent marched down the lanes of Rajpath in New Delhi. South African President Ramaphosa was the chief guest at the Republic Day parade in Delhi. A total of 22 tableaux, 16 from states and union territories and six from central government ministries and departments, showcases various aspects of India. The overall theme of the event was based on the life and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. After unfurling of the national flag, the national anthem was played with a 21 gun salute. The parade began thereafter with President Ram Nath Kovind taking the salute of the marching contingents.
Twenty-six children including six girls and 20 boys awardees of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puruskar also passed through the lanes. The event ended with fighter crafts flying over the crowd. Before leaving, Modi waved to the crowd and was greeted with loud cheers.
