Hyderabad, July 6: To provide a hassle-free journey to the citizens, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) authority has decided to start bike services outside five metro station in the city. According to the plan, one can rent a bike or scooter up to their destination after alighting from the metro. As per a New Indian Express news report, the metro authority, in a joint venture with L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (LTMRHL), will provide the service to the commuters. The pilot project will start at five metro stations -- Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Kukatpally, Prakash Nagar and Balanagar -- and later it will be implemented at other metro stations.
Besides this, the Metro rail transport authority plans to charge Rs. 3 per kilometre and the service will be rolled out based on special weekly, fortnightly and monthly subscription options. “The main objective of this initiative is to boost last-mile connectivity for Metro commuters,” said HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy.
To make the project successful, Driverzy, a company which provides cars, and two-wheelers on rent will provide the bikes for use to commuters at these metro stations. Driverzy will allow the customers to pick a two-wheeler from designated locations and drop them off at any Drivezy location within city limits. So the need of returning the vehicle at the point of origin will not be required.
The idea behind the service is to provide the customers an affordable service so that they can travel at half the price of autos and taxis. NVS Reddy said the HMRL was also working on the proposal to introduce a common ticket facility, where the same ticket can be used to travel on Metro and an RTC bus, reducing the hassle of having to purchase separately.
