Following the grounding of 11 A320 neo planes with faulty Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engines, budget carriers IndiGo and GoAir has decided to cancel more than 600 flights for the month of March. This has created immense confusion and panic like situation among the flyers. To add to this, there have been reports in the media, which talk about how flight prices in the Delhi to Mumbai route and Delhi to Kolkata have soared.
However, it is to be pointed that, the figures that are floating in the media, is based on a data from travel website Yatra.com for only March 13. Reportedly, according to the data, the cheapest New Delhi –Mumbai economy class ticket was at Rs 15,797 and the expensive one was at priced around Rs 29,644, while that for Delhi-Kolkata was between Rs 6,117-Rs 18,825. According to the flight prices for today,(March 19), the cheapest one starts from Rs 3,616 and the expensive one is at Rs 27,083 (for a 13 hours and 10 minutes flight). Similarly, in the Delhi to Kolkata route, the cheapest flight is priced at Rs 3,616 and the costliest one is at Rs 23,812 (for a 22 hours and 35 minutes flight).
As per the announcements made on the respective official websites of the airline, IndiGo would be cancelling as many as 488 flights during the period March 15-31 whereas GoAir has decided to cancel a total of 138 flights between March 15-22. Both the airlines in order to minimize the trouble, which people are facing is giving full refund for cancelled flights and also there is zero cost for any rescheduling.
