New Delhi, November 19: After former defence personnel raised objection over the new military-styled uniforms of the Marshals of the Rajya Sabha, House Chairman Venkaiah Naidu ordered reviewing the dress. The Rajya Sabha Chairman said, “The secretariat of Rajya Sabha after considering the various suggestions have come out with new dress code for marshals. But we have received some observations from some political as well as some well meaning people. So I have decided to ask the secretariat to revisit the same.”

As the 250th session of the Rajya Sabha began on Monday, the marshals appeared in a bluish military like uniform standing alongside Naidu. Many House members were also surprised to see the marshals wearing a navy blue-coloured uniform with a peak cap instead of the traditional attire of Bandhgala and with a safa on the head. Winter Session of Parliament Day 2: Government to Table Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill & Surrogacy Bill in Rajya Sabha.

The Marshals’ new attire also had gold buttons and gold aiguillette - ornamental braided cord worn on uniforms of defence personnel. The peak caps also resembles closely that worn by Army officers of the rank of Colonel and above.

Many defence personnel including former Indian Army Chief General Ved Prakash Malik raised objection to the new uniform. He said that the new attire was illegal and a security hazard. He also requested the government to take action at the earliest.
