Bengaluru, May 31: The results of the by-elections for the Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency will be declared today. Counting of votes will start from 8 am. The constituency went on polls on May 28 because of the detection of electoral malpractices just days before the May 12 polls. More than 55 percent of the 4.7 lakh electorate exercised their voting rights.

On the day of the by-elections, the voting process went smooth and no untoward incident were reported. There were only few incidents of malfunctioning of the EVMs that came to the front. Of the 421 polling stations, 121 were webcast live, while four were pink stations, run completely by women.

More than 14 candidates are in fray this time. JDS and Congress has formed an alliance to keep BJP out of power. Reportedly, Election Commission’s flying squad recently raided the house of the Congress Block President on a complaint that money was being stashed there.

N Munirathna from Congress is facing tough competition from G H Ramachandra (who moved from BJP to JDS a few months ago). BJP on the other hand has brought to the front Tulasi Muniraju Gowda as its candidate.
