Mumbai, June 25: At least four people have reportedly been killed in the incessant rainfall underway in Mumbai and adjoining regions since Sunday. While three deaths were reported in the state capital, a minor died in neighbouring Thane due to the downpour.
In Mumbai, two men were reported dead last evening when a tree fall on them at the Fashion Street - a bustling market place in the southern part of the city. An 18-year-old, identified as Nagendra Nagarjun, died in Malad (west) earlier today, after falling into a manhole near Evershine Nagar.
In Thane, a 15-year-old boy, identified as Kiran Ghaywat, sustained fatal injuries after after a portion of a wall of a sewerage treatment plant collapsed on his house located in Vadolgaon, near Ulhasnagar in Thane district.
IMD issues high alert for next 24 hours
The India Meteorological Department, Mumbai, issued a fresh high alert for the next 24 hours on Monday. The weather body has asked the city residents to not to venture out unless necessitated.
The next high tide in the city is expected at 10:12pm today. In case of incessant rainfall continuing, Mumbai may face further water-logging.
Train delays, traffic snarls
Earlier in the day, water-logging was reported in Chembur, Lower Parel, Sion and parts of Kurla, including parts close to the Mithi river.
Waist-deep height water was also logged in parts of Andheri, Goregaon, Vile Parle and Kandivali. Traffic movement came to a standstill due to the water-logging. In order to facilitate movement, traffic was diverted on major roads connecting the city, including the SV Road, Link Road, Eastern Express Highway, Sion-Panvel Highway and Western Expressway.
Trains were running upto 30 minutes late on Harbour and Trans-harbour line. On the Central route, the trains were upto 20 minutes late, said an official. The Western Line was running 7-9 minutes slow.
