New Delhi, June 13: Congress President Rahul Gandhi is set to host an Iftar party in Delhi on Wednesday evening. The party is expected to be attended by several dignitaries from the political sphere. Invitations to former presidents --Pratibha Patil, Pranab Mukherjee - Vice Ex President Hamid Ansari, and several leaders of opposition parties have been sent.
The iftar party will be keenly watched with much anticipation to see who attends the party on a day when Rahul Gandhi claimed that the opposition leaders were together and forming a mahagathbandhan to give a tough fight to PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government ahead of 2019 lok Sabha elections.
As for former president Pranab Mukherjee, reports say he will be attending the iftar party tonight. Earlier there were reports that Pranab Mukherjee's name was not on the guest list for the party. The reports came amid controversy over Pranab Mukherjee who attended an RSS event in Nagpur on June 7. Later, Congress sources said that the former president has been invited and will be attending the party.
For Rahul Gandhi, this will be the first iftar after he took charge of the Congress party. The party has not hosted an Iftar, which marks the customary breaking of the day-long fast in the holy month of Ramzan, in the past two years and its last Iftar was hosted in 2015. The party has been hosted at one of the Delhi's local luxury hotels as per the party sources.
