Rahul Gandhi Blames 'Corrupt Politics' of Narendra Modi After Rupee Hits Record Low Against US Dollar, Shares an Old Video
Rahul's tweets came minutes after the government blamed “external factors” for the rupee’s fall.
New Delhi, Aug 14: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday blamed the 'corrupt politics' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the rupee’s fall to an all-time low against the US dollar. Rahul Gandhi shared an old video of Narendra Modi in which he is seen saying that 'not just economic policies, but corrput politics is also responsible for the rupee's fall.
"The Indian #Rupee just gave the Supreme Leader, a vote of NO confidence, crashing to a historic low. Listen to the Supreme Leader's master class on economics in this video, where he explains why the Rupee is tanking," the Congress leader tweeted while sharing the video.
Rahul's tweets came minutes after the government blamed “external factors” for the rupee’s fall. "Rupee is depreciating due to external factors. There is “nothing at this stage to worry," Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chander Garg said.
The rupee hit an all-time low of 70.1 to a US dollar earlier today on concerns over Turkey’s economic woes. However, soon afterward, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is said to have intervened to curb the rupee's fall. The intervention aided the rupee to stabilise just a tad below 70 to a USD at 69.98 around 11:05 am. At 1:40 pm, the rupee stood at 69.855 to a US dollar.
