New Delhi, Aug 13: Pune was ranked as the most livable city, followed by Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai, in the livability index released by the ministry of urban affairs on Monday. Rampur in Uttar Pradesh is in the bottom in the ranking of 111 major cities on livability index. The government released the list assessing cities on their "ease of living" parameters.

To rank cities, the government made the ease of living framework that covered four areas - institutional, social, economic and physical. There were 15 subcategories and 78 indicators. Evaluation of cities has been done on a 100-point scale across the 78 indicators with the institutional and social pillars carrying 25 points each, 5 points for the pillar on economic and 45 points for the physical pillar. The Ease of Living Index is an initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to help cities assess their liveability vis-à-vis global and national benchmarks and encourage cities to move towards an ‘outcome-based’ approach to urban planning and management.
