Pune, December 4: In a shocking incident of discrimination at the workplace, a woman was terminated by her company after being diagnosed with HIV. The woman has finally got justice as Labour Court after three years has asked the company to reinstate her in the same post she was in, along with all the back wages. According to an ANI report, the woman has been quoted as saying, "I was asked to submit a document for Mediclaim and when I did that, they asked me about it(HIV). I told them I got it from my husband and within 30 mins, they forced me to resign. I was working there as a trainee operator for 5 years." The report mentions that HIV as the reason for her removal was mentioned verbally, but in the documents, which was handed to her, 'absenteeism' was the reason for her removal. The employee had challenged the company order in a court in Pune. The Court declared that no employee can be terminated on the basis of HIV. The woman who got infected with the disease through her husband, was also boycotted by her in-laws.
In another similar incident from Pune, a woman alleged that she was infected with AIDS-causing virus through saline by her husband. According to a PTI report, the woman claimed her husband, a homoeopathic doctor, and his parents were harassing her for dowry since the couple got married in 2015.
