President Ram Nath Kovind, in his Independence Day Address to the nation, congratulated all the Indians living in India and abroad, on the eve of 72nd Independence Day. Talking about the freedom struggle, President Kovind called all the freedom fighters as "extraordinary."


New Delhi, August 14: President Ram Nath Kovind will address the nation on August 14 on the eve of the 72nd Independence Day from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The address will be broadcast from 7:00 pm on the entire national network of the All India Radio (AIR) and telecast over all the channels of Doordarshan in Hindi followed by the English version, it said. The broadcast of the address in Hindi and English will be followed by broadcast in regional channels of Doordarshan, the statement said.

"The AIR will broadcast regional language versions from 8:00 pm onwards on its respective regional networks," it said. As the President of India, this will be the second Independence Day address by President Ram Nath Kovind. He took office on 25 July, 2017.

Last year in his speech on the eve of Independence Day, President Kovind had lauded major decisions by the Narendra Modi government including demonetisation and Goods & Services Tax. He had also stressed on the importance of education and technology.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from Red Fort in Delhi on August 15. The Prime Minister had called for suggestions for his I-Day address following which he had received over 30,000 responses to choose from.
