Guwahati, June 26: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has taken cognisance of a complaint filed by a pregnant woman who was strip-searched at Guwahati airport by woman sub-inspector on Sunday. The alleged sub-inspector has been transferred today from screening duty to training. The CISF has expressed regret on behalf of the woman sub-inspector.

The incident took place on Sunday when Doli Goswami was travelling back to Delhi along with her husband Shivam Sarmah after attending the last rights of her father in Assam on Spicejet fight. Goswami is 25 weeks pregnant with no complexity. Sarmah accused CISF staff of not handling boarding pass, and rather the staff asked Goswami to show proof of her pregnancy. According to Sarmah, the airlines also asked multiple questions on pregnancy. The couple was also carrying doctor’s prescription.

In spite of showing the boarding pass of the flight from Delhi to Guwahati, the CISF staff refused to budge from their stand. The woman sub-inspector took the victim to a room where she strip-searched her. The victim’s husband also accused the sub-inspector of pushing her abdomen to check pregnancy manually.

According to CISF, the woman sub-inspector was a trainee, and the victim asked her not to use a metal detector on her as she was pregnant. A CISF spokesperson said that the woman sub-inspector got little confused as the couple could not produce any pregnancy documents and that created a misunderstanding.
