Mumbai, April 19: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Thursday filed a police complaint against a YouTube channel for uploading defaming videos of Gandhi and Nehru family.

According to the official statement released by the Congress, Patil has filed a police complaint in Loni police station, Ahmednagar. In his complaint, he has blamed the YouTube channel for intentionally defaming Mahatma Gandhi, the father of nation. Patil also accused the channel of uploading defamatory videos to malign the image of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India and his family members.

The YouTube channel has hurt the sentiments of Indian patriots by their derogatory remarks and hence charges of sedition should be filed against them, Patil said in his complaint.

He also alleged that the channel has outraged the religious sentiments and created imbalance in the society, demanding the State government should act immediately and if it fails to do so, the congress party workers will call a protest.

Senior Police Inspector (SPI) of Loni police station Ranjit Galande confirmed that a case has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 153 A (Persons who indulge in or attacks upon the religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc of any particular group or class or upon the founders and prophets of a religion) and IPC Section 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) against the YouTube channel.
