After being denied permission, Yogi landed in Bokaro and then travelled by road to Purulia. While speaking at the rally, the Uttar Pradesh CM attacked Banerjee. He stated that nothing could be more shameful for a democracy than a Chief Minister sitting on a dharna. Referring to the political row which erupted after Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials reached Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar’s residence on Sunday regarding the investigation of chit fund case, he alleged that Banerjee was protecting a corrupt official.
The firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) further added that people should throw the Trinamool government from the state. The UP CM left for Purulia after the adjournment of the Vidhan Sabha session today. After the Sunday incident, Banerjee has been sitting on a dharna against the Narendra Modi government. Five CBI officials were detained that day, but were later released. Various opposition leaders also extended support to the Bengal CM.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Supreme Court directed Kumar to appear before the CBI in connection with Saradha chit fund scam case. The CBI on Monday had filed an affidavit in the top Court alleging that several incriminating materials were collected by the premier investigating agency during the probe against the senior police officials as well as senior politicians. Following the top Court's directive, Kumar will appear before the CBI in Shillong, Meghalaya as a neutral place. The next day of hearing has been fixed to February 20.
